About me
Caramiya Davies-Reid: Artist & Designer
Energy is finite. Time is infinite, yet we can manipulate it through intention.
Caramiya creates one-of-a-kind clothing and paintings that challenge fashion industry norms of mass production and waste. Each piece is a unique exploration of shape, fabric, and color—slow fashion at a sloth’s pace.
Working exclusively with deadstock fabrics and vintage linens, Caramiya honors the materials’ history while giving them new life. She approaches each piece as a conversation: “I spend time talking to the fabric, asking if it’s ready for its new life and what it wants to become.” Stubborn stains become opportunities for dyeing or embroidery; holes are lovingly patched and repaired.
Traditional sizing doesn’t exist in Caramiya’s world. Each garment has its own dimensions, reflecting the diversity of our bodies. Her silhouettes often explore geometric principles—circles and rectangles that transform through draping and manipulation.
Formally trained at California College of Art, Caramiya moved to Maui in 2005 with her husband Daniel, co-running Indigo Paia for 16 years before setting out on her own. Following her mother Sharon’s passing in 2021, she expanded into large-scale paintings featuring bold female figures that honor her mother’s unparalleled confidence, rendered in vibrant tropical colors with whimsical touches.
Today, Caramiya creates periodic collections that merge both artistic worlds—painting and fashion design. Her one-of-a-kind pieces live at her Makawao shop, and newly finished work often debuts first through her Instagram stories, offering a direct line to her devoted following before it ever reaches the racks.
