About me
Caramiya Davies-Reid: Artist & Designer
Energy is finite. Time is infinite, yet we can manipulate it through intention.
Caramiya creates one-of-a-kind clothing and paintings that challenge fashion industry norms of mass production and waste. Each piece is a unique exploration of shape, fabric, and color—slow fashion at a sloth's pace.
Working exclusively with deadstock fabrics and vintage linens, Caramiya honors the materials' history while giving them new life. She approaches each piece as a conversation: "I spend time talking to the fabric, asking if it's ready for its new life and what it wants to become." Stubborn stains become opportunities for dyeing or embroidery; holes are lovingly patched and repaired.
Traditional sizing doesn't exist in Caramiya's world. Each garment has its own dimensions, reflecting the diversity of our bodies. Her silhouettes often explore geometric principles—circles and rectangles that transform through draping and manipulation.
Caramiya's journey began in Florence, Italy at 16, followed by formal training at California College of Art. After moving to Maui in 2005 with her husband Daniel and co-running Indigo Paia for 16 years, she experienced a creative renaissance in 2019, committing to wear only self-made clothing.
During 2020's quietude, she challenged herself to make "100 dresses in 100 days," each uniquely patterned. Following her mother Sharon's passing in 2021, Caramiya expanded into large-scale paintings featuring bold female figures that honor her mother's unparalleled confidence, rendered in vibrant tropical colors with whimsical touches.
Now, Caramiya focuses on creating periodic collections that merge both artistic worlds—painting and fashion design. Without the constraints of a physical retail space, she embraces a rhythm that allows deeper creative exploration while connecting directly with her devoted following through focused releases of her distinctive work.
